Mr. William Richard “Bill” Costner, age 75, of Newport, passed away peacefully, Friday afternoon, March 17, 2023 at his home. Mr. Costner served on CLB and as a City of Newport Alderman. He retired as a lineman from Newport Utilities after 39 years of devoted service. He loved playing golf with all of his friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Trula Costner; father Clyde “Derby” Costner; mother Margaret Jenkins; brother-in-law Charles Cureton and several uncles and aunts including a special aunt Betty Pierce. Survivors include his daughter Wendy ( Todd ) Atkins ; grandsons Casey (Jessie) Reed and Curtis Atkins; granddaughters Kaylee (Joseph) Beretta and Callie Atkins; great-grandchildren Jacelyn Green, Mallory Reed, Ellie Reed and Owen Beretta; brother-in-law Randy (Donna) Cureton and sister-in-law Wanda Cureton all of Newport. Additional survivors include extended family and friends including a special friend, Glennita Starnes. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Union Cemetery with Dr. Rich Lloyd officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 Thursday at Union Cemetery prior to the graveside service. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Costner-Maloy & Brown Funeral Home.
