Mr. James Walter Johnson

Mr. James Walter Johnson, age 81, of Dandridge, passed away Friday evening, March 17, 2023 at Tennova Turkey Creek Medical Center in Knoxville. He was a United States Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Old Time Gospel Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed coon hunting and trout fishing, and most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by father James Woodard Johnson; mother Nancy Catherine Johnson; brothers Joe Hill, Albert Hill, Jack Johnson and Willie Johnson; sisters Martha Odie Wooten, Carrie Cagle and Sarah Laroche Survivors include his wife Nellie Johnson of Dandridge; son Alvin (Eleanor) Johnson of Newport; granddaughters Cassandra Johnson and Brianna Johnson both of Newport. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special friends Carmel Ivey and Gene Buckner. The funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, March 22, 2023 in the Costner-Maloy & Brown Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Glenn Ball and Pastor Roy Phillips officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. Thursday afternoon at Dandridge Memorial Gardens for the 2:00 p.m. interment with Military Honors to be provided by American Legion Post 41. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Costner-Maloy & Brown Funeral Home prior to the funeral service.
