Mrs. Emma Dean Allen

Mrs. Emma Dean Baxter Allen, age 83, of Newport, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family after a very courageous battle with lung cancer. She loved her church family at Big Pigeon Primitive Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted. Then her church came to her home thanks to her pastor, Elder Maurice Shults and his wife, Debbie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carmack and Lela Denton Baxter, sister, Mary Dawson, brothers, Ralph, John R., Ervin, E.C., Lee Baxter, and William Hart Baxter, father and mother-in-law, Frank and Lillie Clevenger Allen and several brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Hollis L. Allen, sisters, Betty Allen, Pat Martin, Brenda Shults, and Carolyn Barwick, sister-in-law, Anna Kate James, special nieces, Frances Southerland and Barbara (Robbie) Cureton as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dean will always be lovingly remembered as a very humble, loving, and giving person with a heart of gold who was always there to help others. The family would like to say “Thank You” to her friend and caregiver, Patricia Cody, her pastor, Maurice Shults and wife, Debbie, her extensive medical team, Dr. Sarah Knuettel, Dr. Saji Eapen and staff of TN Cancer Specialist, Dr. Allen Meek and staff at Thompson Proton Therapy and all the staff and caregivers at Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice. Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 30, 2023 at 1:00 PM in Union Cemetery with Elder Maurice Shults, Elder Keith Agnew, and Elder Reese Maggard officiating. Family and friends will meet at Union Cemetery at 12:45 prior to service.
