Ms. Doris Jean Jenkins, age 69, of Newport, passed away Saturday Morning, February 11, 2023 at Tennova Newport Convalescent Center. She was a member of Garver’s Chapel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Hertle and June Jenkins; sister Charlene Jenkins; brother Danny Jenkins and nephew Daryl Jenkins. Survivors include her sister Arleva (Terry) Greene and brother Larry (Pat) Jenkins all of Cosby and sister-in-law Sandy Jenkins of Newport. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Family and friends will meet at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Union Cemetery for the 1:00 p.m. interment with Pastor Danny Ray Greene officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, at Costner-Maloy & Brown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in memory of Doris to Gideons International or to the charity of your choice. Doris Jean was a friend of mine for over 30 years. It was a long distance friendship. I live in CA. We spent nearly a month as roommates in a hospital in NYC. Doris was a true Christian, reading her Bible every afternoon. I was able to witness a miracle when she was able to walk after the surgery we both had. We remained pen pals after we both of us returned home. I always hoped we would see one another again but God called her home. I will miss her and pray for her family. Doris was such a blessing to everyone at the nursing home. She always sang with us when me and my sister played the piano for our Mom. We will surely miss her but we know she is resting in the arms of God

I remember Doris when my mom, Atlas, was with her at Tennova. She was the sweetest lady. I loved talking to her.
