Mrs. Alma Jean Cureton

Mrs. Alma Jean Smith Cureton, age 88, of Newport, passed away Wednesday Morning, May 24, 2023 at Tennova Newport Convalescent Center. She was a member of St. Tide Missionary Baptist Church. Her joy in life was caring for her family and home. She was preceded in death by her husband David “Tommy” Cureton; son David W. Cureton; parents John and Alma Smith; sister Elizabeth Mathis and brothers John Smith, Jr. and Harold Smith. Survivors include her son Mark (Gloria) Cureton of Newport; grandsons Ryan (Stephanie) Cureton of Chuckey and Matthew (Jensen) Cureton of Johnson City; great-grandchildren Taylor Cureton, Kanan Cureton and Owen Cureton all of Chuckey; sister Aileen Renner of Newport; brother Jim (Kathy) Smith of Newport; sisters in law Irene Cureton of Dandridge, Joyce Cureton and Marie Wood both of Newport. Additional survivors include several nieces, nephews, including a special nephew Christopher Smith of Newport, cousins and friends. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Pastor Zane Stuart officiating. Family and friends will meet at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Cemetery for the 2:00 graveside service. In lieu of flowers, Alma had requested donations be made to St. Tide Youth Group.
